"Weak First Order Phase Transitions and Electroweak Baryogenesis"

Marcelo Gleiser
Dartmouth College

Abstract:

I will discuss a proposal, put forward in collaboration with Mark Trodden, where we attempt to extend the parameter space available for electroweak baryogenesis by relaxing the constraint of using a strong first order phase transition. Our idea relies on the differences between the dynamics of strong first-order vs. weak first order transitions. I will present both the virtues and difficulties of our approach, using the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model as an illustration.
