"Grand Unification: Cosmology and the Role of Topology"

Marco Spaans
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics

Abstract:

The role of grand unified field theory is discussed in the context of cosmology. A proposal is discussed which leads to an acceptable unified theory and makes specific predictions for observables like primordial perturbations and the cosmological constant, and leads to the occurrence of inflation. It is discussed why and how the topology of space-time plays a crucial role in unification and the properties of the early Universe.
