"Acoustic Signatures in the CMB"
Dr. Wayne Hu
IAS, Princeton
Abstract:
I will discuss the formation of the acoustic features in the
sub-degree anisotropy of the CMB and their use for cosmology.
Their detection is a primary goal for two new upcoming satellite
missions. Under very general conditions, they will be able tell
us the nature of the primordial fluctuations which form large scale
structure in the universe, e.g. whether they arise from an
inflationary epoch or defects in a cosmological phase transition,
and the values of fundamental cosmological parameters.
