Tufts/CfA/MIT Cosmology Seminar, at CfA: Curt Cutler, Pennsylvania State University Title: Doing Astronomy with LIGO: Sources of Gravitational Radiation Abstract: I will give an overview of some of the more promising sources of gravitational radiation that might be detected by the LIGO/VIRGO antennas: coalescing neutron star and/or black hole binaries; rapidly rotating, non-axisymmetric neutron stars; and a stochastic background generated in the very early universe. Cosmological applications of such measurements will be emphasized.
