Pros and Cons of Pre-Big-Bang Inflation
Abstract:
A brief overview of the Pre-Big-Bang inflation in string cosmology
will be presented, outlining its virtues and shortcomings. The focus
will be on the graceful exit problem, based on the concept of
branch-changing, i.e. continuous matching of pole-dominated and
power-law solutions. A recent extension of the exact theorem
prohibiting this type of solution-matching, and therefore ruling out
graceful exit in the tree-level theory will be given. In light of
this result, the scenario becomes more suspect, and it appears that
the only hope to salvage it is to resort to an exact conformal field
theory treatment of the string epoch.
