"String Pair Production in a Time-Dependent Gravitational Field"

Daniel Wesley
Princeton University

Abstract:

I will discuss a calculation of the pair production of strings in a time-dependent gravitational field, focusing especially on the production of excited string states. This calculation reveals significant differences between point particles and strings in both the spectrum and production rate. I will describe our calculation and its relation to general properties of string scattering, as well as the potential implications for cosmological phenomena, especially the production of string relics during reheating.
