"Cosmological Initial Conditions and Inflation"

Anthony Aguirre
UC Santa Cruz

Abstract:

I will first review and discuss how an inflationary phase provides initial conditions for a big-bang universe, and discuss some of the issues that arise if it provide initial conditions for many such universes. Next, I will discuss whether and how inflation can in turn arise from a low-energy non-inflating universe. Finally I will briefly mention the possibility that the universe has boundary conditions, but no initial conditions or cosmological singularity.
