"Conflict between anthropic reasoning and observation"

Ken D. Olum
Tufts University

Abstract:

In many cosmological models the parameters of nature that we expect to measure are influenced by some sort of anthropic principle. However, the idea behind such principles, together with some seemingly reasonable assumptions, leads to the conclusion that we should find ourselves in a huge civilization that has colonized its whole galaxy. What's wrong?
