"Superconducting Strings and Vortons"

Paul Shellard
Cambridge University

Abstract:

Superconducting cosmic strings may be able to form stationary states, stabilised by the angular momentum of a chiral current. However, this stability has never been established in full generality. Analytic criterion for the stability of string currents will be presented, together with full field theory simulations of evolving vortons. The cosmological implications of this work will also be discussed.
